How we compare pet friendly airlines

Every airline writes its pet policy differently, so pet friendly airlines are hard to compare. For example, one sets an 8 kg limit for the cabin, another only asks that the carrier fits under the seat, and some don’t carry pets at all. That’s why PetFlightsFinder reads the official rules of 62 airlines and turns them into one simple answer for your pet.

  1. Tell us about your pet: species, weight with the carrier, and whether it’s a snub-nosed breed.
  2. Add your destination, because some countries, such as the UK, only accept pets on approved routes.
  3. Compare the results: see which airlines say yes in the cabin, in the hold or as cargo, with fees and a link to the official policy.

Pet friendly airlines: frequently asked questions

Which pet friendly airlines allow pets in the cabin?

Most European airlines, including Lufthansa, KLM, Air France, Turkish Airlines and TAROM, accept small dogs and cats in the cabin up to 8 kg with the carrier. In North America, by contrast, airlines such as Delta, United and Air Canada care about the carrier size rather than the weight. See every airline in our airline pet policies.

Can my dog fly in the cabin with me?

Yes, if it’s small enough. On most airlines, the dog and its soft carrier must stay under about 8 kg and fit under the seat in front of you. Larger dogs, however, travel in the hold or as air cargo.

Which big airlines don’t take pets in the cabin?

A few of the biggest names, including Emirates, Qatar Airways, British Airways and Ryanair, don’t take pets in the cabin. However, some of them still carry pets in the hold or as cargo, so check the details for your route.

What documents does my pet need to fly?

In most cases, a microchip, a valid rabies vaccination and a health document: an EU pet passport within the EU, or an animal health certificate when you arrive from outside it. For example, check the European Commission or GOV.UK rules, and the IATA advice for pet owners.

Is PetFlightsFinder free?

Yes. Searching is free and needs no account. In addition, a free account lets you save your pets and the airlines you fly most.
